Este processo pode polir, passivar e rebarbar as pe\u00e7as. Este processo funciona de forma oposta \u00e0 dos processos de galvaniza\u00e7\u00e3o, uma vez que a pe\u00e7a actua como \u00e2nodo na rea\u00e7\u00e3o. \u00c0 medida que a corrente passa atrav\u00e9s da pe\u00e7a (\u00e2nodo), a superf\u00edcie \u00e9 oxidada e dissolvida na solu\u00e7\u00e3o para o c\u00e1todo.
