L'ossido nero \u00e8 un rivestimento di conversione (simile al Alodio<\/a>) che viene utilizzato per l'acciaio e l'acciaio inossidabile. Viene utilizzato principalmente per l'aspetto e per una leggera resistenza alla corrosione. L'ossido nero impregnato di olio pu\u00f2 fornire la massima resistenza alla corrosione. L'ossido nero si forma con un processo simile all'anodizzazione, in cui i pezzi vengono immersi in vari bagni caldi di sostanze chimiche che convertono la superficie del materiale in magnetite, creando il colore nero. L'ossido nero non ha un impatto dimensionale significativo, pertanto non \u00e8 necessario mascherare i pezzi.
